No special tools. No complicated install.
Most Z-TRAK™ systems are installed in 10–15 minutes with basic tools.
For steel truck beds (self-tapping hardware):
- Powered drill or impact driver
- 5/16" socket
- Tape measure (optional)
- Masking tape (optional for marking)
No pilot holes required—our self-tapping hardware goes straight into the bed for a fast, secure install.
For aluminum or composite beds (recommended Plus Nut install):
- Powered drill
- 3/8" drill bit
- Wrench or socket
- Tape measure + marker
This method requires drilling holes and installing plus nuts for a stronger, more secure mount—especially in aluminum or composite beds.
Our Plus Nut Kit includes all required hardware and the install tool, so you don’t need to buy anything extra.

Overall the Z-TRAK system was designed to be installed in your driveway—no shop required. Most customers with basic tools and DIY skills will knock this out easily, however, if you do want a professional shop to install, especially if your less comfortable with nutserts like our plus nut kit, reach out and we are happy to find you a shop in your area that is willing to assist with a Z-TRAK install.
